Formalities

At our first meeting we will discuss what is legally required in a civil ceremony and what you may wish to include. I can provide literature for all types of ceremony inclusions that you can keep and think about. A Notice of Intention to Marriage is the first legally required form that I will complete with you, at least one month and a day before your wedding date. I can provide this form or you can download it from: Attorney General Marriage Celebrant Section

In some circumstances a shortening of this time can be granted. You can discuss this with the Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Grenfell St., Adelaide: Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Office

You must be over 18 years of age to marry in Australia and not be married to any other person. If you have been married before I will need to sight how your last marriage ended, such as a Death Certificate, Decree Absolute or Divorce Certificate.

Before your wedding I am required to establish your identity and will need to sight birth certificates or a certified copy. You can apply for a birth certificate in South Australia at: Office of Consumer and Business Affairs

At your wedding you are required to have ready, two witnesses, over the age of 18, who can vouch for your identity.
